France supported Poland’s position on restrictions on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products into the EU. This was reported by Policy.

The publication states that French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk agreed to unite the positions of Paris and Warsaw on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products to EU countries. Both countries will insist on further restrictions, otherwise Kiev threatens to derail negotiations with the EU on extending the free trade regime for another year.

The meeting took place during the Weimar Triangle summit in Berlin on 15 March; where both leaders called for support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.

Negotiations, whose aim will be to resolve differences of opinion between EU countries and the European Parliament on this issue, are planned to be held on March 19.

According to Politico experts, in case of new restrictions Ukraine could lose 1.2 billion euros in income. Unless resolved quickly, the scandal risks overshadowing the upcoming summit of EU leaders in Brussels and rendering empty-handed their statements of solidarity with Ukraine.

In France, Poland and other EU countries, farmers’ protests have not subsided for several months, declaring that it is impossible to compete with cheap agricultural products imported from Ukraine to EU countries without customs duties and restrictions.
