More than a very successful performance by the president of Law and Justice before the Pegasus Commission of Inquiry could prove to be a major turning point, on at least two levels.

First, it reinforces the belief that Jarosław Kaczyński – or rather: only Jarosław Kaczyński can lead the Polish independence camp towards further political victories. It can provide first a diagnosis, then a prescription and, crucially, basic unit.
Second, the spectacular (intellectual, legal and political) defeat of MPs Zembaczyński and MPs Sroka is the first defeat of the Big Lie, which brought the December 13 coalition to power. There were lies in describing the PiS government, lies during the campaign, exposing scandals that did not exist, and lies about promises. People lied with extreme cynicism, and unfortunately with impunity. Until now.
Of course, disproving the Big Lie takes time and, above all, hard work. It also requires points-based, impressive wins, exactly as reported by the PiS president during Friday’s hearing. They send out impulses strong enough that at least part of society can notice the extent of the manipulation.
Investigative committees, which the Platform intended to produce nails in the PiS coffin, now work for PiS. They provide a platform on which to refute the Big Lie on which PO came to power and on which it now bases its – in fact already illegal – rule.
