There has been a story for so many years that Jarosław Kaczyński is too old for politics, there are so many titles, authors, so many tons of paper printed to prove it, so much prime time wasted on it, and then one day At 15 March it turned out that the age of the PiS president is the age of Reagan or Adenauer, not Biden or Mazowiecki, because years are different.
And it was said that he was limping on his right knee, walking up the stairs too slowly and that his trouser legs didn’t fit right – even many right-wing commentators sighed that this had already been discredited, that’s all, amen.
However, when it comes to intellectual confrontation, President Kaczyński uses facts, knowledge of political mechanisms and ultimately even technical mechanisms, which became visible, for example, when he explained to Zembaczyński, who is a generation younger, how the Pegasus system works.
The president may be slow to climb the stairs, but he is moving quickly up the rhetorical ladder: from general to specific, from analysis to synthesis, from the post-1989 decommunization process to the specific infiltration of groups of judges by the civilian or military security services.
And the point wasn’t just that President Kaczyński was juggling legal principles and answering questions he didn’t need to answer because he is a doctor of law who has been legislating for decades.
It is not even about the fact that he used data about meetings with his ministers, that he referred to specific provisions of legislation or regulations that authorized him to make specific decisions – after all, he was a member of the government many times, and probably knows the procedures and hierarchy of importance of the duties of the Prime Minister or Deputy Prime Minister better than the multiplication table.
Also referring (more or less jokingly) to Aristotle or the infamous classic of communism or to the hierarchy of legal acts is not a revealing advantage of the former prime minister, because even his more cultured opponents do not deny him the status of an ‘ intelligentsia of Żoliborz “.
It is becoming more and more interesting due to this media attention. Trela and Zembaczyński asked questions so that any answer would embarrass the witness. There were aggressive questions with a predetermined statement, questions repeated many times, the interrogator was provoked by interruptions, raising his voice, vulgar opinions and a rude tone (Trela cackled that “they reported everything to you, know that we” ), Coalition MPs confused fact with opinion, judgment with evidence, and made syllogisms so flawed that a teacher of logic or rhetoric would throw away their degrees and get a job in a car park.
This fire of intimidating questions lasted – remember – seven hours. This is what remains of the myth about the “old” Kaczyński, since students leave the exams after two quarters of an hour, consumed by stress and tension, since nowadays concentration is shortened when distracted by digital inventions, here comes the one who comes before briefly made fun of because he doesn’t have a bank account (today he doesn’t have a touchscreen phone) and for more than 1/4 of the day he successfully plays this clumsy, eristic chess game with several opponents at the same time.
Even the bullies admitted that Kaczyński had the advantage. “Newsweek” defends this pathetic committee and formulates advice for the next meetings. Wyborcza had to mention that the president “handled it well”, the vulgar profile of the “Eight Star Movement” – always anti-PiS – described the questioners with the word: “too bad”, and Donald Tusk could only afford a clumsy tweet. After seven hours of interrogation, Zembaczyński’s face was red and swollen, Trela and Sroka were sweating and the president was laughing and probably a little bored by the banality of his opponents’ thought process.
And it was really impossible not to notice it in this seven-hour ring. Of course, those who even respond to this text will be full of venom at the servility or submissiveness of the author of these words towards the leader of the independence camp, but In fairness, it must be admitted that the PiS president is in excellent intellectual condition and no amount of swearing will change that.
