It is a pity that Ludwig von Mises was so literally right on this particular issue when he wrote that democracy and capitalism are doomed to each other, in the sense that here as well as here a free man chooses the product he buys or votes for. However, since the time of Mises (he died in 1973), capitalism has changed so much that its marketing is extremely aggressive, luring people in with the worst products presented so convincingly that people buy them – like politicians, they often became products almost off the factory line at the request of a businessman, oligarch or other player. So you can sell people a hair growth fluid that doesn’t work, but you can also sell the young generation to renew politics, which will completely spoil politics. And it’s a shame that just as society will forever be fooled by advertising, it will also be fooled by election narratives.
Five products of different quality
Adam Gomoła and Aleksandra Wiśniewska are the faces that should represent the ‘Z’ generation, and behind their ideology is the ‘hope for a new policy’ or the reconstruction of the destroyed Mosul (which the young KO MP attributed to himself) rich. parents and several good party slogans. Behind Robert Biedronie, who wipes away the tears of persecution with hundreds of thousands of euros from Brussels, is the pushy machine of the LGBT lobby, which has its own ideas for companies in Poland, behind Hołownia are Jacek Cichocki and a few TVNians, and behind Tusk is some German chancellor. Each of them is such a product, a beautiful hair growth liquid, that it does not matter what is in the bottle, whether it is any detergent, orange drink or colored water, what matters is that the labels are applied in a very attractive style . that makes you want to hold it in your hand until I want to pour it on my head and see when I can braid the whole thing. Gomoła and Wiśniewska are labeled as ‘fresh young people’, Biedroń as a ‘tolerant lover’, Hołownia as a ‘performing comedian’ and Tusk as a ‘real European’ – and that’s enough.
Just fraud
And at the same time, on the second shelf of the store that sells Polish politicians there may not be a miraculous hair growth fluid for sale, but a medicated shampoo with a slightly worn label, and it must be admitted that it is quite expensive , because buying it results in countless bullying and rabies in the ubiquitous media, but it really helps with that damn hair. And of course you can raise the issue that the shampoo manufacturer should try to get a better label, but at the same time consumers need to be intensively taught that this Nigerian prince asking for a one-time loan in an email, these pots presented at a local show, these advertisements for magical cosmetics on websites, or finally this Philo-German politician or some fair policy forever, promised by a child, it’s just fraud.
This education, however, requires one to turn to the classics, because Thucydides, Machiavelli, Wawrzyniec Goślicki, Szymon Konarski and – among the more easily digestible – even Sienkiewicz with his ‘red cloth’ from which magnates want to cut enough for themselves ‘for a coat’, wrote about it: “It was enough.” However, Gomoła and Tusk are nothing new under the sun. Minister Nowacka’s idea to completely dismiss the above-mentioned authors makes sense, because it will be easier for Poland to promote more bland products – even political ones.
