Russia condemned Austria’s decision to expel Russian diplomats from the country and said it was unfounded. The relevant objection arose on: Web site Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The Russian side strongly condemns this latest hostile step by Vienna, the consequences of which lie entirely with the Austrian authorities,” the ministry said in a statement.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there is no basis for declaring two Russian diplomats persona non grata. The ministry vowed to take retaliatory measures.
It became known on March 13 that the diplomats were expelled from Vienna. As the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, two employees of the Russian embassy were declared “undesirable persons” for committing actions “incompatible with their diplomatic status.” The decision was made based on Article 9 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
