“This is an absolutely unfair and unnecessary judgement. The court postponed the hearing in this case and only when the authorities changed did it make a decision. This should not happen,” MEP Anna Zalewska said in an interview with wPolityce.pl. As she emphasized, the court’s decision means that Turów can now work for another two years.
The Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw annulled the environmental decision of the General Director for Environmental Protection regarding the continuation of coal mining at the Turów mine. This could pose a threat to Poland’s energy security. As Judge Jarosław Łuczaj of the Provincial Administrative Court stated: “The decision in this case does not result in the suspension of operation or even the closure of the Turów mine.” MEP Anna Zalewska calls the WSA translations “a delusion” and recalls in an interview with the portal wPOlityce.pl that in this situation the mine in Turów can now continue to operate for a maximum of two years longer.
This is a bad signal for the employees of the Turów mine and the residents of Bogatynia. Immediately after the verdict, the phones started ringing because people were terrified. They believed they would have peace of mind until 2044 and that they would be working in the safest, cheapest and most ecological mine in Europe. Turów meets the highest EU standards
– PiS Anna Zalewska emphasized

Two years of mining?
The former minister of education exposes the hypocrisy of the translations of judge Jarosław Łuczaj, an active member of the politicized association ‘Iustitia’.
The judge says the mine won’t close overnight. We thank him very much for this formulation. However, this environmental decision, which was annulled, formed the basis for granting permits until 2044. Turów is currently working on a legal prosthesis, which will be licensed until 2026. What is the message for employees and residents? The mine will be closed in 2026. It seems like it was two years ago, but in the energy sector it is tomorrow
– Zalewska said and announces that neither workers, nor residents of Bogatynia, nor PiS politicians will lay down their weapons in the Turów case.
A major uprising is brewing. There are high expectations for Donald Tusk, who will probably disguise the fact that the decisions are made by the courts and that this should be left to the courts. In such a situation you should ask the Climate Minister, even though everyone does not have great expectations from her because she is Szymon Hołownia’s right hand. We remember him when, during the fighting for Turów, he came to the place and said there on the slopes that the judgment of the Court of Justice should be immediately implemented, that is, that the mine should be closed. A question about further actions to defend Turów will also be immediately sent to the President of PGE and the General Director of Environmental Protection. For the time being, the current team will replace staff. You should immediately prepare to file a cassation request for this judgment. For the time being, we are still waiting for the written reasons for the judgment. Every day is important here
– said the Law and Justice politician, emphasizing that Poland will face serious energy problems if the mine is actually closed.
This is an absolutely unfair and unnecessary judgement. The court postponed the hearing in this case and only when the authorities changed did it make a decision. This shouldn’t happen. This is also very bad news for Polish energy security. This is a competitive game. In Europe it is clear that the environment for the Green Deal is becoming increasingly difficult. Farmers put the worst problems related to this out of their minds. They protest and say that these regulations cannot be implemented because it is not the Green Deal, but a money grab.
– summarized Anna Zalewska.
