Couldn’t he help it? Prime Minister Donald Tusk decided to play with political allusions during his meeting with the American president. He spoke about Joe Biden’s “inspirational” election campaign, stable democracy in Poland, and also quoted… John Paul II. He spoke openly about it in a later interview for neo-TVP Info. “I must say that everyone welcomed with great appreciation the return of these democratic norms and the rule of law in Poland,” he said. What nerves.
Political allusions in conversation with Biden
Although the joint visit with President Duda to the White House was supposed to be a symbol of unity, Donald Tusk – probably with a view to domestic politics – decided to play with innuendo in his conversation with Biden.
I would like you to know that your campaign four years ago was truly inspiring for me and for so many Poles. You know what it encouraged us to do after this fight and this victory. Thank you for this determination. This was not only important for the United States
– said Donald Tusk, addressing the American leader.
Today I would like to give you just one message on behalf of the Poles. Our country is now a stable democracy, predictable for our allies, and providing the security on which the security of the entire region depends. When we started our journey to the West, Pope John Paul II said: “There can be no just Poland without an independent Poland.” And today I would say that there can be no safe Europe without a strong Poland. I can also say that there can be no fair Europe without a free and independent Ukraine
– he said.
Can boast of the “rule of law”
Shortly after the talks in the White House, he tried to openly brag about it in an interview for neo-TVP Info. There was – of course – a question about the ‘rule of law’.
Yes, not only today, also yesterday I had the opportunity to talk to leading representatives of the US government, people responsible for America’s internal and external security, and I must say that everyone supports the return of these democratic norms and welcomed the rule of law in the country. Poland with great appreciation.
– he said.
Well, it is clear, I am not giving away any secret, that these are also priorities and the most important things for Joe Biden (…). (…). Yes, here in Washington I must say that I also fully understand what has always been my goal in politics and I have received with satisfaction many very warm words about what is happening in Poland
– added.
But the Prime Minister’s next words were truly grotesque. Tusk argued that he did not want to spoil the atmosphere of solidarity during the visit… and after a while he tried to stab President Duda anyway.
Okay, I’ll be honest. I don’t know, I just don’t know whether the President will decide to cooperate with us or whether he will block these laws, including those aimed at restoring the rule of law, the independence of the judiciary, etc. time plays in favor of these changes and sooner or later, I am not talking about years, but about months, we will reach our goal (…). We will achieve these objectives no matter what
– he said, or perhaps he wanted to threaten? To scare?
So many beautiful words about recognition in the US and the rule of law. However, we all know what it actually looks like. Every week of the coalition government on December 13 brings us a painful experience of lawlessness.
