“The only agreement the president made was with Prime Minister Tusk and he will talk to the prime minister about ambassadors,” Marcin Mastalerek, Chief of Cabinet of the President of the Republic of Poland, said on Radio ZET.
Marcin Mastalerek, Head of the Office of the President of the Republic of Poland, revealed on Radio ZET that President Andrzej Duda has “specific ideas” regarding his visit to the United States. He will address the Poles in a televised speech at 8 p.m. According to him, the president’s basic motive is to separate security policy from the current political struggle in Poland.
American visit
Regarding the planned meeting of President Duda and Prime Minister Tusk with US President Joe Biden in Washington, Mastalerek said that it will first take place between the three leaders in the oval office, and then a delegation meeting will take place, during which President Duda will talk about military security and energy, and will also recall last year’s meeting at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw, where – together with Prime Minister Morawiecki – the priority of the Polish Presidency of the EU Council was – namely ‘more America in Europe ‘.
Mastalerek also answered Bogdan Rymanowski’s question about why President Duda has no plans to meet with former US President Donald Trump, who is one step away from victory in the Republican Party primaries. He stated that the President had received an invitation from his American counterpart and that it “would be inelegant” if President Duda were to meet Donald Trump on the day of Joe Biden’s invitation.
That wouldn’t be a good idea. Please consider how President Biden would behave, but nothing can be ruled out in the future
– noted the presidential minister.
According to him, the visit of the President and the Polish delegation to Washington should send a clear signal to everyone that NATO is united and ready to face all threats of the modern world. Therefore, the Polish president will hold meetings and discussions in the US Congress related to security – with both the majority and the minority.
Appointment of ambassadors
Marcin Mastalerek also commented on the issue of agreement between President Duda and Prime Minister Tusk on the appointment of ambassadors.
I hope the agreement is valid. From the president’s side, it is valid. The only agreement that Mr. President made was with Prime Minister Tusk and he will talk to the Prime Minister about ambassadors
– he assured.
According to the compromise, President Andrzej Duda must appoint ambassadors who will take over missions in the US, UN and NATO.
I think some people around the State Department, perhaps people who want to be ambassadors, are trying to use the fait accompli method to make up articles that there will be a sudden exchange of ambassadors. No
– said Marcin Mastalerek.
The minister also added that President Duda will certainly not agree to dismiss the current ambassadors whose terms are still valid. This could only happen in the context where the government would present very serious, disturbing information that would cause them to lose their position.
Mastalerek noted – regarding the proposal to appoint Bogdan Klich as ambassador to the US – that the current ambassador, Marek Magierowski, is performing his role very well and that there are no grounds to dismiss him from the post in Washington.
There is no change today. The president will not agree to this
– he commented on Radio ZET, noting that when Klich was the head of the Ministry of National Defense, there were two serious plane crashes.
No major changes
Marcin Mastalerek also commented on the current situation on the Polish political scene, assessing that he does not believe in the collapse of the governing coalition due to disagreements on abortion, because for the time being it is united by hatred of Law and Justice, but also after many years in power.
He added, referring to the potential list of candidates to replace Jarosław Kaczyński in PiS, that “no one has a chance against him because it is his private party.”
Not my business. These are internal party matters. I think no one has a chance against President Kaczyński, because it is his private party, he built it from scratch and in PiS no one can beat President Kaczyński
– Mastalerek commented.
