If the president wants to participate in the restoration of the justice system, it will happen faster, especially when it comes to the institutional layer, the head of the Ministry of Justice, Attorney General Adam Bodnar, said today in Szczecin.
The Minister of Justice opened a series of meetings in Szczecin with prosecutors and staff of public prosecutors across Poland.
This is the first meeting in a series that we have tentatively called “Tour the Prosecutor’s Office”, namely that I would like to visit all regional prosecutor’s offices and – if possible – meet all prosecutors in the country. We have almost 6 thousand. public prosecutors, several hundred public prosecutor’s office evaluators, we have public prosecutor’s assistants, we have public prosecutor’s staff
– said Bodnar.
The meeting organized at the Polish Theater in Szczecin was attended, among others, by: prosecutors, evaluators, assistants of the Public Prosecutor, officials and employees of general organizational units of the Prosecutor’s Office subordinate to the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Szczecin.
The aim of this meeting was to present the current situation of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, what are the main challenges related to joining the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, the prosecution of different types of crimes, or issues related to the administrative burden for prosecutors.
– emphasized the Minister of Justice.
It also shows what will happen in the coming months and years, both in the context of the reform of the Public Prosecution Service and in the context of the daily functioning of individual units of the Public Prosecution Service
– added.
“The prosecutors need to be taken care of.”
The meeting was also intended to exchange opinions, obtain information on current issues, as well as the expectations of the prosecution community and prosecutorial staff regarding the future of this institution.
What I take away from this meeting, the main idea, is that the accusers must be taken into account. Given their place as highly qualified lawyers who serve us all, but also what their basic tasks are, how the state treats them, how the state does not always have the tools to properly distribute the work that prosecutors face
– said the head of the Ministry of Justice.
As examples of the issues discussed, he mentioned, among others, staff shortages at the level of the public prosecutor’s offices and remuneration issues. He emphasized that the meeting was also intended to provide “a whole range of different tips and ensure that these issues are corrected.”
During his visit to the Western Pomeranian Voivodeship, the Minister of Justice visited, among others: District Prosecutor’s Office in Goleniów. He announced that similar trips would take place every two to three weeks and that more regional prosecutor’s offices would be visited.
Such direct contact is much more than sending letters, orders, etc. The Public Prosecution Service is faced with a number of challenges related to the restoration of the rule of law and a certain normality in the functioning of the Public Prosecution Service, and we are way to this goal. .
– said the regional prosecutor in Szczecin, Wojciech Szcześniak.
Justice Fund
The Minister of Justice was asked, among other things, by journalists: On the issue of the Justice Fund, he said that we have “a double level of action” in this matter.
The first thing we need to do is prepare for the announcement of a new subsidy competition from the Justice Fund. There are many non-governmental organizations waiting to hear whether they can get money and under what conditions
– he inquired.
The second level is the level of investigation, which is carried out by Investigative Team No. 2 of the National Public Prosecution Service, led by Prosecutor Marzena Kowalska. This research team carries out intensive activities related to the Justice Fund and also tries to respond to all subsequent media information that appears with this research
– Added Bodnar.
Asked how long it might take to restore the justice system, he said it “depends on the president.”
If the President is willing to cooperate in this area, things will move faster, especially when it comes to the institutional layer, the adoption of laws relating to the National Council of the Judiciary, the Supreme Court, the system of ordinary courts or the status of the public prosecutor’s office.
– said Bodnar.
It is not just about adopting one action or another. We spent a lot of time on issues such as supervision and psychological support for prosecutors. This is not something that will be solved in six months. Or the issue of the status of employees and assistants at the prosecutor’s office
– said the head of the Ministry of Justice, referring to the issue of restoring the justice system.
He said if there is no cooperation with the president, this process will take longer.
