If it destroys everything, it will be a loss, because a lot of effort has gone into preparing these different publications from different sources – said the former director of the Institute de Republica, Prof. Andrzej Przyłębski. In this way he referred to Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s decision to liquidate this institution. However, this is not the only facility that the December 13 Coalition is liquidating. The philosophy professor called it ‘a scandal’.
Donald Tusk’s team liquidates important institutions, including: in the fields of culture and science. During Monday’s press conference, the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, Jan Grabiec, announced that Prime Minister Donald Tusk had decided to liquidate two institutions founded by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in recent years: the Generation Institute and the De Republika Institute. The latter is an analytical center and publishing house.
A blow to history and science
Prof. Przyłębski noted on Telewizja wPoland that “the institute was apolitical, engaged in the humanities and social sciences” and “promoted niche research that did not receive subsidies” but was valuable. He added that the institute was “dealing with our past”, which – as the professor of philosophy noted – is evident from the album entitled: “Dąbrowskiego’s Mazurka. Images, words, notes”, which traces the history of the Polish national anthem presents.
I thought this institution could be saved somehow. Being aware that some of these attacks were caused by me, I gave in, but it wasn’t enough
– explained the former director of the institute.
The demand to hold Prime Minister Tusk accountable for his hundred promises is increasingly expressed in the public space. As noted by Prof. Przyłębski, about 17 institutes were liquidated at these points, including the Institute de Republica.
He also announced that another important album was in preparation.
Work on the next volume, a similar publication about the flag, was nearing completion
– noted the professor, adding that he did not know what would happen to these works after the liquidation of the institute.
As he said, “About sixty books were processed” and “many of them are collective scholarly works.”
I do not know how Prime Minister Tusk, the Prime Minister’s Chancellery and Mr Grabiec intend to solve these problems. If it destroys everything, it will be a loss, because a lot of effort has gone into preparing these different publications in different fields – from history to political science, sociology, philosophy and religious studies. This is also a great pity for Polish science
– said the former Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Berlin.
Liquidation is a ‘scandal’
The probable liquidation of the Sejm publishing house, which, among other things, printed copies of the report on war losses.
This is a nightmare
– assessed Prof. Przyłębski, adding that “this is unimaginable.”
The publications of this publishing house are also very valuable
– he pointed out.
Sejm Publishing House was a place where such publications (such as the report – ed.) could appear, and if it is destroyed or disbanded, there will be no place where such voices could appear.
– said the former director of the Institute de Republica.
I consider it a scandal
– he concluded.
The scientific community is opposed to Tusk’s decision
Prof. Przyłębski pointed out that there was no response from the scientific community to the actions of Tusk’s team.
I wonder how long public opinion, especially the scientific community, will tolerate and approve of this
– said the former ambassador.
Universities – my alma mater Adam Mickiewicz University, UKSW, KUL – contacted the Institute de Republica asking for support in organizing various conferences
– he said.
There is no outrage within the scientific community at what this government is doing, not only in the context of the liquidation of the institute, but also in the context of an attack on the rule of law, which is unacceptable in any democratic, self-respecting and sovereign state . .
– said Prof. Andrzej Przyłębski.
