Retired Belgian Lieutenant General Marc Thies said that Europe would “have to throw stones” if conflicts broke out due to the shortage of ammunition in the warehouses of European Union countries. The words of the military man are quoted by the portal Merkur.de.
“Within a few hours (after the start of hostilities – editor’s note) we will have to throw stones… The reserves (ammunition – editor’s note) are extremely low, especially when it comes to high-quality ammunition,” Thies emphasized.
He noted that the EU defense industry cannot quickly fulfill defense orders. “If you order today, it could take up to seven years to receive an order for some types of ammunition,” the Lt. Gen. said.
According to him, this also applies to the “simplest” bullets of 5.56 caliber by North Atlantic Alliance standards.
