The guests of the “Salon Journalists” on Telewizja in Poland discussed the historic policies of the government of Donald Tusk, especially in the context of yesterday’s National Day of Remembrance of the Cursed Soldiers. “Young people loved the Cursed Soldiers and understood what it was about,” said Elżbieta Królikowska-Avis.
Minister Dziemianowicz-Bąk said in the context of the commemoration of the Cursed Soldiers that it was necessary to separate the “wheat from the chaff”. She also stated that Witold Pilecki is a hero and Józef Kuraś “Ogień” is a criminal.
The point is to make this holiday disgusting, to belittle it, and to make it clear that the state no longer supports it.
– Marcin Wikło briefly commented.

Memory sine wave
Elżbieta Królikowska-Avis pointed out that in her life she had witnessed various approaches from the central government towards the Cursed Soldiers, but that their cult had only been popularized in mass culture in recent years.
I witnessed this whole sine wave. Several decades of complete silence about the Cursed Soldiers, after which in 2007 President Lech Kaczyński, at the request of Janusz Kurtyka, the head of the Institute of National Remembrance, initiated the National Day of Remembrance of the Cursed Soldiers and suddenly it turned out that almost all of Poland loved the Cursed Soldiers, especially the young ones. It was a bit like – toutes proportions gardées – the generation of John Paul II: the Cursed Soldiers found their way into mass culture, rock, comics and computer games. The young people loved the Cursed Soldiers and understood what it was about
– she noted.
The more communism, the fewer unbreakable soldiers
– she added.
Miłosz Manasterski, in turn, pointed out that the struggle against the commemoration of the Cursed Soldiers stems from a certain tradition, inherited from communities originating from the Polish communist left in terms of family and identity.
Certainly, this heritage is a very serious problem in the context of celebrating this holiday. I think this holiday in itself is disturbing and that the pattern the Cursed Soldiers presented, i.e. uncompromising patriotism (…), is alien to the current administration. This government promotes rotten compromises and the attitude of people who fight to the end will not please any of them
– he assessed.
