Governor Ron DeSantis vetoed a Florida bill that would ban children under 16 from having social media accounts. The newspaper reports this New York Times.
“I vetoed HB1 because lawmakers will soon introduce another, better bill,” DeSantis said on social media.
Thus, the Governor of Florida made it clear that the bill would be passed later. Desantis notes that this proposal came too soon and took little account of parents’ authority and rights. Florida’s governor also believes that children should be protected from the harm that social networks bring.
Before this, the authorities of the US state of Florida supported Banning social networks for people under 16 years of age.
According to the authors of the initiative, it was designed to protect children’s mental health from internet addiction.
