“I still believe that [wprowadzenie wojsk zachodnich na teren Ukrainy] This is the fastest and only sure way to end the war, which is in the fundamental Polish interest,” said the President of Law and Justice, former Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński, in an interview with the weekly “Sieci”. The entire interview, largely devoted to national affairs, will be published in the Monday edition of the weekly magazine, available on Sundays to subscribers of electronic editions.
“Sieci” Weekly: How does the president assess relations with Ukraine? Do you share the feeling of disappointment about the attitude of the Ukrainians – even before the elections in Poland?
PRESIDENT JAROSŁAW KACZYŃSKI: From a human point of view, many Poles are disappointed. I understand that. However, politics, and I have been involved in political activities for quite some time, effectively cures illusions and naivety. It was in Poland’s interest to save an independent Ukraine. Polish support was fundamental in the first days and months. It was an action in the interest of our independence, just and effective.
President Macron spoke out in favor of the introduction of Western troops into Ukraine. You also suggested this during your famous visit to Kiev.
And I still believe that this is the fastest and only sure way to end the war, which is in Poland’s fundamental interest. I support such a solution, but such an initiative requires a broad international agreement, and in particular cooperation within the North Atlantic Alliance.
HOW IT WAS?
Let us not forget that in March 2022, after the famous trip to the still besieged Kiev, President Jarosław Kaczyński assessed that the “political and military” circumstances of the Ukrainian victory in the war with Russia are related to “the support of Ukraine by NATO’. peace mission.”
This will not be possible without the participation of a NATO peacekeeping mission – if we want peace to be truly guaranteed and on decent terms for Ukraine. Will it happen? If anyone knows the history of these cases – and I do too – they know it’s not impossible, but not very likely either
– he said.
As always, he was hit with a barrage of attacks. Today, after two years of great sacrifices, French President Emmanuel Macron returns to the concept.
A few days ago, after a meeting of the leaders of several European countries in Paris, he said that defeating Russia is “essential” to guarantee security in Europe. He added that sending Western land forces to Ukraine should not be ruled out in the future, although in his view there is “no consensus” on the issue at this stage.
Yesterday he again assured that every word he says on these issues is thoughtful and “carefully selected.” Many Western countries, following Macron’s words, have ruled out this possibility.
Every word I say on this matter is balanced, thoughtful and carefully selected
— Macron said at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Village in Paris. He declined to comment further on international affairs, arguing that the ceremony was not the appropriate venue.
