The appeal of Transnistria deputies to the State Duma and the Federation Council is not related to the issue of recognition of the republic. Galina Antyufeeva, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Republic of Moldavia, stated this in an interview with socialbites.ca. He explained that Moldova was exerting economic, political and information pressure on the PMR, which the republic could not cope with alone.
“Of course, today no one would want Pridnestrovie to be recognized, because our people declared such a will in 2006 and there is nothing new in this. There is no need to repeat the results of the referendum (98% of the population was in favor of joining Russia – socialbites.ca’s note). We gathered because there is real economic, political and informational pressure on the Republic. Such a smooth entry into the constitutional space of the Republic of Moldova worries all Pridnestrovians. Moreover, there are endless calls for the dismissal of the peacekeepers who have kept the peace for so many years. We understand that we cannot create a budget and fulfill our social obligations to retirees and state employees due to the blockade and restrictive measures aimed at undermining our economic potential. Almost all businesses paying taxes to the Transnistria budget were stopped. And of course this can’t be a cause for concern. Such an important decision was always taken at congresses, so it was decided to gather the deputies at the first meeting. The president supported it,” said Antyufeyeva.
The deputy speaker of the parliament added that Russia has helped Pridnestrovie for 33 years of its existence, so the people of the republic are waiting to be heard again.
“As for support measures, this is of course primarily humanitarian support. It will be difficult, impossible to cope without him. Our budget is losing huge revenue. Even though Moldovan politicians say that everyone should be on equal terms and pay the same wage, they receive huge aid from the European Union. Let me remind you that Moldova itself abandoned us. Anyway, the slogans are “Suitcase. Railway station. Russia”. Citizens who do not have Moldovan citizenship are deported from Chisinau airport. Citizens’ rights and freedoms are violated and the democracy they talk about does not exist. We are a sovereign democratic state. We are talking about this and we trust that no one can prevent us from living as we have lived in this world for 33 years. We have already had more than one “We got rid of the economic blockade and oppression, but this only makes the people of Transnistria stronger and more united. And I believe that victory will be ours,” Antyufeeva concluded.
On Wednesday, February 28, a congress was held in Pridnestrovie, attended by members of parliament from all levels. The meeting was initiated by PMR chairman Vadim Krasnoselsky and the reason for this was cited as economic pressure from Moldova. As PMR Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev said, “This is a chance to be heard far beyond the borders of Pridnestrovie and an opportunity to show the true picture of what is happening.”
At the congress, a resolution and an appeal to the Federation Council and the State Duma of the Russian Federation, the UN Secretary-General, the CIS, the European Parliament and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe were adopted.
More than 220 thousand Russian citizens live on the territory of Transnistria.
