PiS MP Michał Dworczyk commented on Telewizja wPoland, among other things, on KO MP Paweł Kowal’s famous statement about Roman Szuchewycz, one of the most important UPA commanders. “I am surprised by this statement. A Polish politician should not present the matter in this way. The topic of genocide committed in Volhynia and the former Eastern Lesser Poland is a topic that cannot be ignored,” said Michał Dworczyk.
Currently nothing can be obtained. Agreement can only be reached on the excavation and marking of graves (of the victims of the Volhynia massacre – ed.). If Ukrainians decide that this is not important to them, you have to wait until they change their minds. We will not act with force. If anyone has an idea to call every second street in Ukraine Roman Shuchevich’s artery, let him do it. That’s no reason to invade Ukraine, is it?
– said Kowal in an interview with the Interia portal.
Of course you can agree with Mr Kowal that this issue cannot be resolved within a month or probably even a year, but it is our duty to emphasize how important this issue is for Poland, just as it is our duty to respond in situations where the names of people directly responsible for the murder of Poles during World War II, and Roman Szuchewycz is one of those people; squares and streets are named and monuments are erected to such people. You have to respond
– he pointed out Michał Dworczyk.
Dworczyk: Poland was an important country in supporting Ukraine at the beginning of the war
Is Ukraine ungrateful to Poland, after what Poland did for Ukraine, especially at the first, key moment of Russian aggression?
We can certainly be embittered by the different situations in Polish-Ukrainian relations that have arisen in recent months. Indeed, Poland was one of the key countries in the early months of Russia’s large-scale aggression against Ukraine
– said the PiS MP.
It is not only about the military support that we have provided from our own resources, it is not only about the political support that politicians like Andrzej Duda and Mateusz Morawiecki have provided, mobilizing the countries of Western Europe to support our eastern neighbors , because I want to remind you that that was not the case at all in the beginning, was not clear. (…) We were and are a logistics hub that secures Ukraine
– Dworczyk recalled.
In short, we have reasons to be bitter when we listen to some statements of important Ukrainian politicians, including the President of Ukraine, but we must also be aware that the situation of Ukraine is in an absolutely critical state. It has lost part of its territory, tens of thousands of people have died, (…) there are more and more problems with waging war and this is the only way to explain the nervous statements of some Ukrainian politicians
– he pointed out.
