Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia said that there is a plan to consider projects related to the liberalization of abortion at the next session of the Sejm. Previously, Hołownia proposed to “remove” the issue of abortion from the ongoing campaign of the local government.
During the briefing, the Marshal of the Sejm was asked whether he would recommend that the Sejm consider all abortion-related projects during the next session. The chamber meeting will take place on March 6 and 8.
Hołownia succumbed to the pressure from the left?
There is such a plan, but we are part of the coalition and will discuss it this week. I will put my working proposal on the table so that all projects related to the permissibility of abortion are read at the next Sejm and further decisions on work on them are made.
– Hołownia replied.
He admitted that he had previously proposed to “remove” the issue of abortion from the ongoing campaign and deal with these projects during the first session of the Sejm in April – April 10-12 – and then refer them to an extraordinary Commission.
“The Left had a different opinion on this issue and formulated it in a rather confrontational way,” Hołownia said, referring to the statement of Sejm Deputy Chairman Włodzimierz Czarzasty, who recently said that the leaders of the Third Way – Szymon Hołownia and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz are blocking the progress of projects related to the liberalization of abortion regulations.
Hołownia admitted that he would take this into account.
Because no matter what, we have to face this problem and put it on the table honestly. So this week I will present this idea and solution to the leaders. If they decide that we want to do it this old way and tackle this very important issue calmly, after the heat of the election battle, then we will think about it.
– he said.
All projects for second reading
For now, my proposal is this: let’s do it during the next Sejm, since we cannot agree on a new joint action.
– he pointed out.
In my opinion, all these projects should be read out in the plenary hall
– added.
When asked whether he would personally vote to reject any of the proposed bills on abortion in the first reading, Hołownia emphasized that he was in favor of all bills being included in the second reading.
Last week, Trzecia Droga (PSL and Polska2050) submitted a bill on abortion to the Sejm, reversing the Constitutional Court’s 2020 ruling. TD politicians also announced a motion for a referendum on this issue.
At the end of January, the Sejm received a bill from a group of deputies of the Civic Coalition parliamentary club on abortion, which assumes that a pregnant person has the right to health care in the form of termination of pregnancy during the first twelve weeks of pregnancy. its duration. In November, the left submitted two projects on liberalizing abortion regulations. One of them partially decriminalizes abortion and its assistance, the other allows termination of pregnancy until the end of the twelfth week of its duration.
