Krzysztof Szczerski will remain Poland’s permanent representative to the UN, Foreign Ministry head Radosław Sikorski said in a statement to Polish Radio.
Ambassador Szczerski was praised yesterday by the UN Secretary General and in fact I agreed with the President that he should remain in his position
– he said Radosław Sikorski.
Krzysztof Szczerski held the position of Poland’s Permanent Representative to the UN in 2021. Previously, in 2017-2021, he headed the Cabinet of President Andrzej Duda.
Szczerski’s election as chairman of the UN Commission for Social Development
It is worth recalling that Krzysztof Szczerski was recently elected President of the UN Commission for Social Development by acclamation, as announced by Bartosz Kempiński, First Secretary of the Polish delegation.
The Commission is a UN body with rich traditions, active since the organization’s founding. Its main task is to advise governments around the world on creating policies aimed at supporting the development of society by ensuring appropriate economic, political, cultural and legal conditions.
– wrote in the statement.
It was emphasized that Poland attaches great importance to social development and has experiences in this area that are interesting for partners.
By leading the Commission’s work, we are ready to enrich its legacy and share our solutions used in Poland
– said Ambassador Szczerski.
One of the guiding principles of the Commission’s work at the 63rd session will be to strengthen solidarity.
I am pleased that the main theme of the Commission’s work will be solidarity. In Poland we agree that this concept deserves special recognition by the international community and that it should be translated into practical solutions for the benefit of society.
– noted Szczerski in his speech to the members of the Commission.
The Commission meets annually and brings together 46 UN Member States. The Commission’s work results in resolutions and decisions, including: a resolution on the chairmanship of the session and on the social dimension of the New Partnership for African Development.
The Commission plays an advisory role to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), of which Poland has been a member since the beginning of this year and will be a member for the next three years.
