As wPolityce.pl discovered, there will be no Run of Remembrance of the Cursed Soldiers “Wolf Trail” in Puławy. It would be organized by the Razem dla Puławy association, of which Beata Kozik is chairman. The problem is that the campaign’s national coordinator, the Freedom and Democracy Foundation, has never heard of such an association. Moreover, Beata Kozik, who is currently running for president of Puławy, voted against the construction of a monument to the cursed soldier major in Puławy a few years ago. Marian Bernaciak, alias “Columbine”. As he assures today, it was only about the location, “not about the idea of building.”
Beata Kozik was dismissed as vice president of Puławy a year ago. Now the association she heads, Razem dla Puławy, has registered her for the local elections. He will run for president and will have to compete with Paweł Maj, who currently holds this position.
WiD distances itself from the competition organizers
The Beata Kozik Association wanted to organize a run in honor of the Cursed Soldiers at the Puławy MOSiR Stadium on March 3. In a letter to the director of MOSiR, Kozik requests the provision of an athletics track, sound system, parking lot, toilets and distance measuring equipment. At the same time, it refers to the collaboration with the Freedom and Democracy Foundation, which coordinates this Wolf Trail Run throughout Poland.
This association is unknown to us
– Lilia Luboniewicz, president of the Freedom and Democracy Foundation, told the portal wPolityce.pl, which issued a special statement on this issue:
The Freedom and Democracy Foundation declares that the Razem dla Puławy association is not and has never been a partner in organizing the Wilcze Trail – Cursed Soldiers’ Remembrance Run project. During the 12th edition of the project, no entity registered to organize a running competition in the city of Puławy. The run in Puławy has been held for three years. The only organizer who had signed an annual agreement with the Freedom and Democracy Foundation was the Bez Miar Foundation.
Kozik: There will be no run
We asked Beata Kozik for an explanation and she told us that the race would ultimately not take place.
It turns out that unfortunately there were not enough packages. The letter that was sent concerned the organization of this race and contained the caveat that we would receive these packages. This collaboration with the Freedom and Democracy Foundation has now come about because it is the national organizer of these runs. This cooperation would be based on the organization of the race in Puławy
– Said Kozik, who confirmed that So far, her association has not reported plans to organize the race with the Freedom and Democracy Foundation.
What about the monument to Maj. Bernaciak
In December 2019, Beata Kozik voted against the construction of a monument dedicated to Maj. Marian Bernaciak, alias “Columbine”. He is one of the most recognizable Cursed Soldiers in these areas, whose daring actions were carried out in the center of Puławy. A monument would be erected in his honor at this place. The President of the Republic of Poland, Lech Kaczyński, posthumously awarded Major Bernaciak the Grand Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
An application to erect a monument was submitted to the city council by members of the Puławy branch of the World Association of Home Army Soldiers, who wanted to finance the creation of the monument between Partyzonów, Centralna and Piłsudskiego streets. This would be done as part of the participatory budgeting project. During the December session of the Puławy Municipal Council, the idea was rejected.
Among other things, she voted against: Beata Kozik, current head of the association Razem dla Puławy, explains the matter in an interview with the wPolityce.pl portal.
I was not against the construction of the monument and the concept of this idea. I meant the place because the residents wanted to build something else there
– Beata Kozik told us.
The idea was to build a large, three-dimensional advertising inscription “PUŁAWY”, which would be placed exactly in the same place as the monument in honor of “Orlik”.
The construction of the Bernaciak monument itself. “Orlik”, sure, but not necessarily in this place, it wasn’t about the idea itself, this place was controversial
– explains Kozik. Finally, the monument to Maj. There is no Bernaciak in Puławy.
