The Vienna Regional Criminal Court sentenced former Austrian Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz to eight months’ probation for perjury. This was reported by a local publication Courier.

At sentencing, judge Michael Radastic confirmed that Kurz had been found guilty of lying to a parliamentary committee.

During the announcement of the verdict, the judge explained that Kurtz’s defense arguments did not allow for an acquittal because an incomplete statement cannot automatically be considered false.

“Questions are sometimes thought-provoking, vague and often asked aggressively. [на парламентских слушаниях] fights break out. But this is a false statement, just like in court,” Radastic added.

At the same time, Kurz was acquitted of the charge of appointing his confidant Thomas Schmid to the board of directors of state investment holding OeBAG.

At the meeting, a decision was also made about Kurz’s “right-hand man” Bernhard Bonelli, the former head of his cabinet. He was also found guilty of making false statements, but the court sentenced him to six months probation.

Kurz resigned as chancellor of Austria in October 2021 as part of an anti-corruption investigation and announced his final retirement from politics in December of the same year.

Previously Kurtz there is a position In an organization founded by Trump’s son-in-law.
