Ukrainian farmers targeted agricultural machinery at the border crossing with Poland in Krakowiec-Korczów. In this way they want to show Polish demonstrators under what conditions farmers in Ukraine currently work, the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture said.
Destroyed Ukrainian equipment brought to the border
The equipment placed on the border and destroyed during the war unleashed by the Kremlin includes tractors, a GAZ-53 truck and combine harvesters, which were imported from Kherson Oblast, liberated from Russian occupation.
The K-701 tractor was supplied by an enterprise in Bilzerka, Kherson Oblast. The farm was occupied from March to November 2022. The occupiers destroyed almost all equipment and stole the crops
– wrote in a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture.
After enemy fire, only ruins and bullet craters remained on the company’s premises. The direct losses of this company amounted to approximately €5 million
– they emphasized in the ministry.
Ukrainian farmers report that they are fighting for the harvest, at the cost of their own lives. In 2023, in Kherson Oblast alone, in unoccupied areas, twenty farmers were injured by Russian mines, and five of them died. In total, the Ukrainian agricultural sector suffered more than $80 billion in direct losses and damage during two years of large-scale war.
Farmers’ protest
For several days now, numerous farmers’ protests have been taking place across Poland, including blocking roads, highways, highways and border crossings with Ukraine. Farmers are opposing the influx of Ukrainian goods and the European Union’s Green Deal policy.
Prime Minister Tusk announced on Thursday that in order to guarantee 100 percent that military and humanitarian aid will reach Ukraine without delay, border crossings with Ukraine and designated sections of roads and railway lines will be included in the list of critical infrastructure facilities.
