Equality Minister Katarzyna Kotula announced that the left-wing parliamentary club today submitted a request to the Chairman of the Sejm for emergency procedures and a vote on abortion laws. She added that this is a fulfillment of the promises the left made to women before the elections.
During a joint press conference with the Head of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, and the Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Magdalena Biejat, which took place today in the Sejm under the slogan: “Women’s rights cannot be put in the freezer – legal abortion now!”, Kotula emphasized that the ruling coalition has a strong commitment to women. A promise made before the parliamentary elections.
“It’s time to put an end to what we talked about during the election campaign.
On behalf of the New Left, the Razem Party, our voters, but also the voters of the October 15 coalition, we would like to remind you that the time has come to settle the score for what we all talked about during the election campaign.
– she emphasized.
According to Kotula, every day of delay in processing abortion laws represents a loss of confidence in the government.
Today we as a parliamentary club of the left submit a request to the Chairman of the Sejm for urgent procedures and a vote on abortion laws.
– she inquired.
In November 2023, the left submitted two projects to the Sejm on the liberalization of abortion regulations. One of them partially decriminalizes abortion and its assistance, the other allows termination of pregnancy until the end of the twelfth week of its duration and introduces additional rules regarding the conscience clause.
Minister Kotula, who instrumentalizes representatives of her gender, is fundamentally wrong when he identifies “left-wing voters and the October 15 coalition” with all women in Poland. Unfortunately, the left has never wanted to take into account the voices and rights of those who oppose the liberalization of abortion and abortion in general, and this is the majority.
