Former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called on Thursday evening to support protesting farmers. According to him, the inclusion of border crossings in the strategic infrastructure is intended to send “police with batons” to attack demonstrators there.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Thursday that he wants to guarantee 100 percent that military and humanitarian aid will reach Ukraine without delay, border crossings with Ukraine and designated sections of roads and railway lines will be included in the list of critical infrastructure.
However, according to former Prime Minister Morawiecki, such a move means that “demonstrators will not be able to control what comes from Ukraine, they will not be able to protest there (…) that the police will be sent against them, that those in power want to use the police against them with clubs and want to destroy this democratic protest.” He emphasized that the right to protest is a “fundamental democratic right.”
We must all stand with the farmers today, we must all empathize with their problems
– noted the former Prime Minister during an online chat on one of the social networking sites.
Don’t be misled, don’t be divided, let’s fight together for the rights of all of us
– addressed Morawiecki.
We stand with the Polish farmers, let us never abandon them, they feed and defend them. And this time they are defending our right to Polish agriculture
– he emphasized.
‘Embargo on products from Ukraine’
According to him, “today it is in the interests of farmers to impose an embargo on products from Ukraine, and not to ask the EU about it.” The government should also negotiate an agreement with the Ukrainians that is beneficial to the Polish countryside, and not – as he said – “see whether farmers will leave these barricades and these protests.”
Because they don’t come down. I hope that with social support, with the support of all of us Poles, they will protest and show more and more strongly what they think about the policies of the current government.
– noted the PiS politician.
During the chat, Morawiecki also read – as he said – information sent to him by the chairman of NSZZ “Solidarność”, Piotr Duda, that the National Committee of “S” had decided on Thursday to “provide active support to protesting farmers”.
We will organize protests together until our authorities start defending Poland’s interests
– read by the former Prime Minister.
For several days now, numerous farmers’ protests have been taking place across Poland, including blocking roads, highways, highways and border crossings with Ukraine. Farmers are opposing the influx of Ukrainian goods, as well as European policies regarding the so-called Green deal.
