The European Union has decided to lift sanctions against the former head of Yandex, Arkady Volozh, who is vice president for government relations of the Russian investment company AFK Sistema Sergei Mndoyants and manager of the local branch of the Night Wolves motorcycle club Josef Gambalek. It was noted that the decision will come into force on March 15. On the same day, the blacklist for Russia will be automatically extended by six months, but Volozh, Mndoyants and Gambalek will be removed from the list.
Diplomatic sources said the inclusion of these people on the sanctions list was “legally unjustified”. In the Volozh case, the European Union’s decision was also influenced by “the change in their behavior”, according to the agency.
Britain before now extended Anti-Russian sanctions were imposed by 50 positions, including the heads of major Russian companies. It was noted that in addition to NOVATEK, measures were also taken against the management of UMMC and ALROSA. Perm Powder Factory was also approved. The list includes companies from China, Belarus, Turkey and the UAE.
