The popular movement “I/WE Sergei Furgal” was declared extremist and banned in Russia. This has been reported Web site Prosecutor’s Office of the Khabarovsk Territory.
The agency filed a lawsuit in the Khabarovsk Regional Court to recognize the movement as an extremist organization and ban its activities in the country. The court hearing was scheduled for February 22 and has already passed.
The following statement is included on the prosecutor’s website: “Under the guise of protecting and supporting the former governor of the region, the interregional popular movement “I/WE Sergei Furgal” was found to be engaged in extremist activities.
The unifying basis of the movement is an extremist ideology that involves inciting hatred and hostility towards representatives of state institutions, destroying the legal foundations and values of society. “The main goal is to create conditions that will change the foundations of the constitutional system of the Russian Federation and change the power in the country by force.”
The former governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Sergei Furgal, did not admit his guilt in the criminal cases in which he was accused. After his arrest in the summer of 2021, protests began in Khabarovsk, including “I/WE Sergei Furgal” rallies. First, a rally with a similar name was held in Moscow in support of imprisoned journalist Ivan Golunov.
A year ago, Furgal was sentenced to 22 years in a maximum security colony. Currently, the Moscow court is considering the second case of the former governor regarding the theft of SME Bank assets.
