Hungary blocked the European Union from adopting the 13th package of anti-Russian sanctions

Ambassadors of European Union (EU) member states planned to agree on the next package of sanctions against the Russian Federation on February 14, but a representative from Hungary blocked the adoption of the document. A British newspaper reported that Finance Times.

The document states that Budapest was the only one to vote against the introduction of new restrictions. We are talking about a sanctions package targeting nearly 200 individuals and companies. At the same time, when agreeing on the document, not only Russian organizations, but also foreign organizations may be subject to restrictions.

“The only country that voted against yesterday at the EU ambassadors’ meeting was Hungary, otherwise the sanctions package would have been approved,” the publication said.

According to the unnamed official, Budapest opposed the 13th anti-Russian sanctions package, which included three Chinese and one Indian companies. Another source for the publication said that the Hungarian ambassador asked for more time for his country to evaluate this initiative.

Discussions about the document are currently ongoing. The issue is expected to be considered by ministers of regional community member states soon.
