About a year and a half until the next election. The Russo-Ukrainian war, a change in the balance of power in Europe and in the world, inflation in the country, high fuel and food prices, refugees from Ukraine, the deplorable consequences of covid hysteria. We are in a situation that politicians have not addressed since the political breakthrough. However, it is astonishing what is happening in the ranks of the opposition.
According to the well-known slogan “Gentlemen, let’s count the votes”, it is feverishly calculating which coalition configuration or an independent start will give an advantage and help “take PiS out of power”. This is all that matters. Specific program details are not there, and those appearing are authentic improvisation, ad hoc reaction to current events and an attempt to provoke serious social conflict, to stir emotions (a lie about the supposedly planned ban on divorce). Actually, the same show we’ve been watching since the fall of 2015 is still going on. Only in much more serious circumstances. Based on historical comparisons, the atmosphere of the eighteenth-century parliamentary crooks and the constant expectation of intervention from neighboring countries.
What do these calculations show? Because they last all the time. First, Andrzej Machowski presented his calculations in “Gazeta Wyborcza”. The opposition coalition could count on 250 seats, a separate start of the four committees of KO, Poland 2050, Lewica and PSL at a maximum of 223. The studied coalition variants and configurations, the algorithm for the distribution and distribution of places on the lists , the flow and outflow of the electorate, and the conditions for their mobilization without spending a cent. Anything to get to power. No program details.
Interestingly enough, the biggest problem for everyone seems to be Viktor D’Hondt and his system of proportional conversion of votes into seats. Who even Marek Borowski described in another text published in “Polityka” as the judge who ultimately decides everything. In his opinion, you should start together and take bonuses for unity. Otherwise, even in the event of a combined victory of the opposition committees operating separately, the ruling PiS will gain about 3 advantageous seats.
But even such calls do not mobilize the leaders of the four largest parties to come to an agreement. However, the left wing prefers to walk alone, although it diplomatically indicates that it is ready for a possible coalition. PSL and Poland 2050 believe that a better solution would be to create two lists. It turns out that they are not convinced of the joint action led by Donald Tusk. No trust.
His slogan “Gentlemen, let’s count the votes” still stands. The opposition only charges – without a positive program, except for the banalities about the “Repair of the Republic” destroyed by the PiS regime†These elements are mentioned in the above article by Marek Borowski. “Restoring the rule of law” (and thus return to the prosecutor’s status quo), “Constitutional and civil law compliance” (Opposition newspaper editorial investigations? Mine arrests for fans?), Regaining importance in the EU (Germany regaining political influence in Poland?), “Strengthening local government” (I understand that the opposition mayors and mayors of cities already ruling today, such as RafaÅ‚ Trzaskowski, will build social housing?).
And besides, it’s about what it always is: positions, functions, influences, and all the other benefits that come from the exercise of power. And they are in front of everyone’s eyes. They put their division first during the pre-election stage.
