Katarzyna Lubnauer, Deputy Minister of Education, announced on TOK FM that a new, slimmed-down core curriculum will be introduced in schools from September 1. She also defended the ban on compulsory homework in primary schools, because according to her, students will do it with the help of artificial intelligence if they want.
A new, slimmed-down core curriculum will be introduced from September 1. (…) This is a very big job, but the number of hours that will be in schools for all subjects does not change, but the scope of materials changes
– noted Katarzyna Lubnauer, adding that as many as 17 teams are working on these changes.
We want students in the future to have less of this knowledge while working with the same textbooks, because the textbooks will not change, and teachers will have more time to practice this knowledge with them.
– said Lubnauer. Ironically, it cannot be denied that the less material there is, the more likely students are to master it. The question is whether the dream school is one where students receive as little knowledge as possible?
“We do not prohibit domestic work”
What about the ban on mandatory homework?
This arrangement is currently also the subject of consultation and will be slightly adjusted. (…) We are not banning homework, we are saying that homework in groups 4 to 8 should be optional and not graded. There is no other part that sets children apart as much as homework. If we want to judge children reliably, we must judge them based on what we know for sure they have done themselves
– she said.
We have moments when we realize that quickly writing an essay or solving tasks means entering one of the chat rooms that use artificial intelligence and we will receive the solution in a minute.
– she emphasized, without adding that the situation in the case of tests could be presented in a similar way – perhaps there is no point in taking them, since there are students who are very good at deceiving others , or for example from a mobile phone?
As you can see, Donald Tusk’s coalition is quickly revolutionizing Poland’s schools. If they are introduced, students will actually have much more free time. However, it is rather naive to believe that the vast majority of them will spend this on education.
