“The evidence of Russian crimes is irrefutable. But collecting and securing them is, with all due respect, the easy part,” said Marek Magierowski of Georgetown University.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the United States spoke before a panel discussion organized by the Institute for Women, Peace and Security at Georgetown University.
Magierowski began his speech by recalling how famous dictators and criminals took their own lives.
Adolf Hitler committed suicide in the bunker. Joseph Stalin died in his bed, as did Pol Pot, the Cambodian tyrant. Nicolae Caucescu – the authoritarian ruler of communist Romania – was shot, but without trial. Jozef Mengele suffered a stroke while swimming in Brazil – exactly 45 years ago. The exception was the fate of Adolf Eichmann. The organizer of the ‘Final Solution’ was kidnapped by the Mossad in Argentina and sentenced to death after a trial in Jerusalem
– said Marek Magierowski.
Putin before the Tribunal
Then the diplomat turned his attention to the issue of the war in Ukraine. When talking about Tucker Carlson’s interview with Putin, he mentioned holding Vladimir Putin accountable for war crimes.
Fast forward to 2024 and the ongoing war in Ukraine. The evidence of Russian crimes is irrefutable. But collecting and securing them is, with all due respect, the easy part. On time. (…) As you may have heard from newspapers or social media, a famous American journalist has been in Moscow in recent days and is probably editing and sending his interview with President Putin. I believe that you would all prefer that the Russian President be interrogated by a judge in The Hague. I hope that one day this will happen without the need to kidnap Mr Putin from Argentina
– said Magierowski.
