I will not act under pressure, the members of the European Commission do not accept instructions from the governments of the Member States, EU Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski said, responding to calls for his resignation over farmers’ protests.
In accordance with the TFEU, members of the European Commission do not take instructions from Member State governments
– said Wojciechowski, referring in Polsat News to Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz’s speech in the Sejm. The head of PSL said from the parliamentary gallery that Wojciechowski “united all European and Polish farmers against the reform he proposed” and called on the commissioner to resign.
I would like to tell Mr Kosiniak-Kamysz very clearly that I do not accept any instructions from him
– said Wojciechowski. He also called on the People’s Party leader to “declare at least one initiative that came from him as Commissioner for Agriculture that would not be supported by the PSL.”
In turn, PiS President Jarosław Kaczyński stated that Wojciechowski had to finish his mission and that he would ask him to do so himself. “But whether he will finish it, I just don’t know, because I have no influence on whether he is commissioner or not,” Kaczyński said.
I take the opinion of President Jarosław Kaczyński very seriously, but I will keep the opportunity to present information about my activities in the European Commission, I will not act under pressure.
– said Wojciechowski. I do not expect such decisions today, the commissioner added when asked about a possible dismissal.
As he said, “some politicians have too little knowledge” about his activities in the Commission and the European Parliament. Wojciechowski added that he had not heard the voice of any agricultural organization in Europe calling for his resignation.
I separate the voice of politicians from the voice of farmers
– said the commissioner.
