Polish President Andrzej Duda retracted his remarks regarding the historical connection of the Crimean Peninsula with the Russian Federation and stated that he made this statement during a “casual conversation”. His words are quoted RIA News.
The head of state emphasized that Warsaw still adheres to its official position that Crimea should be placed under Kiev’s control. According to him, only the return of Ukraine to its internationally recognized borders will enable the restoration of the rule of law in the global political arena.
“If we are talking about my interview on Friday, then please note that this was not a tense conversation with a politician; this was what we considered a calm, relaxed conversation on a variety of topics, not necessarily a serious interview,” Duda explained.
He also added that the journalists touched upon a “very serious” issue regarding the status of Crimea during the meeting. As a result, the Polish President answered the question by referring to various debates on this issue in his reasoning.
