The whole world is talking about the fact that Poland is passing the exam in these difficult times. I believe – thanks to the cross, Christianity and such parishes – said Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Culture Piotr Gliński, during the celebration of the 800th anniversary of the parish elevation of the Holy Cross in Luborzyca (Krakow district).
The Archbishop of Kraków, Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski, emphasized in the sermon delivered during the Sunday Mass to mark the anniversary, that when the Church was founded 800 years ago in Lubierzyca, this happened during the great evangelization campaign of the whole Polish nation.
He was given the title of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, because they also wanted to show here in Luborzyca that the cross is the most important and most sacred. We can only hope for him
– he pointed out.
The Hierarchy thanked all those who have contributed hundreds of years to the development of the parish and ensure that the communion of believers continues to this day.
Thank you for their faith, love and hope; for those wonderful, fundamental virtues of the Christian faith that have been passed down here from generation to generation as the most precious treasure and most precious holiness
– emphasized the Archbishop.
Challenges for Christians
Piotr Gliński drew attention to the challenges associated with professing Christianity – as a beautiful and difficult religion.
The cross is a symbol of this beauty and toil, because our whole life, when we try to be good people, is exactly what matters: the span between good and evil, sacrifice and fall
He pointed.
As he emphasized, the example of the parish of Luborzyce shows that one can live for eight centuries in a community that tries to exemplify such an attitude. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, this is a great force with which we can respond to today’s challenges.
I am the minister of culture and I have always realized that the modern world is the world of a major cultural crisis. But this crisis is a challenge that we must always witness and try to overcome
– said Gliński.
According to the deputy prime minister, “the cross and Christianity, such ancient parishes and communities, our strength is on our way to try to make the world a little better.” Referring to the current situation, the minister emphasized that among the many challenges is “the great challenge beyond our eastern border”.
It is a great blessing and grace in this parish – that we are able to meet this challenge, as parishioners, as a whole Poland, but also individually to take it and pass the exam
– points to the Minister of Culture.
strong by faith
The whole world is talking about the fact that Poland is passing the exam in these difficult times. I believe thanks to the cross, Christianity and parishes like here in the state – which last eight hundred years
– added the Deputy Prime Minister.
In the Holy Mass Deputy Marshal of the Senate Marek Pęk, Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk and representatives of regional authorities also took part. After the service, a family picnic began.
The Parish of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Luborzyca was founded in 1222 by the Bishop of Kraków, Iwo Odrowąż. From 1405 it was a university parish, which meant that – according to the will of St. Jadwiga Królowej – its pastor could only be a doctor of canon law at the University of Kraków.
The parish church – originally of wood and now made of brick – dates from around 1433. It houses many valuable monuments of sacred art, including the Antaba from the early 12th and 13th centuries, a monstrance from around 1460/1470 and many valuable chalices, preserved in the church treasury.
For two months, the 800th anniversary of the parish is celebrated. As part of the anniversary, a series of lectures on history, led by scholars and historians, were organized.
