MP Tadeusz Tomaszewski told PAP that the left-wing project provides for the possibility of retirement when a woman reaches 35 years of contributions and non-contributions, and a man reaches 40 years. He stated that pensions that depend solely on contribution periods constitute discrimination against women.
MPs from the left have submitted to the Sejm a parliamentary bill amending the Law on Pensions and Annuities of the Social Insurance Fund and certain other laws to introduce a seniority pension.
The project presented by the left MPs provides for the possibility of retirement when a woman reaches 35 years of non-contributory and non-contributory years and a man reaches the age of 40.
– MP Tadeusz Tomaszewski told PAP.
He pointed out that in the government project, which will be submitted to the Sejm in December, seniority pensions depend on contribution periods, which he said constitutes discrimination against women. As he said, it is women who have a significant share of non-contributory periods.
The introduction of this bill is a consequence of our election manifesto
– he emphasized. He recalled that the left had a number of proposals for seniors as part of its election manifesto, including a project on widow’s pensions, old-age pensions and double indexation of pensions.
He added that the project of seniority pensions has been agreed with the National Agreement of Trade Unions.
The project submitted by the Left concerns the possibility of retirement for persons born after December 31, 1948, who have had a contributory or non-contributory period of at least 35 years for women and 40 years for men, provided that the pension to which this right relates is insured is entitled to, is calculated according to the formula. The available contribution will be equal to or higher than the minimum pension.
A government project after an agreement with ‘Solidarity’?
In December, a government project was submitted to the Sejm, which stipulates that the old-age pension, regardless of age, would become payable to people with a contribution period of at least 38 years for women and 43 years for men. The project is – as indicated in the justification – the implementation of the government’s commitment of June 7, 2023, when Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki signed an agreement with NSZZ “Solidarność”.
The current pension system makes the right to a pension conditional on the insured person meeting the condition of having reached the correct age: 60 years for women and 65 years for men. The rule is that every person who was subject to a pension becomes entitled to an old-age pension upon reaching this age. The length of the period in which you pay pension insurance premiums affects the amount of the pension. As a rule, the minimum pension is paid to persons with a non-contributory or contributory period of at least twenty years (in the case of women and at least 25 years) in the case of men.
