Turkish politician Mustafa Destici, leader of the ultranationalist Grand Unity Party, said Ankara should not approve Stockholm’s membership in the North Atlantic Alliance and warned of the risks of retribution from such a policy. The newspaper reports this Wall.
Destinci expressed the opinion that it is impossible to approve Sweden’s participation in the alliance until it fulfills all its obligations towards Turkey, including resolving the issue of the activities of the recognized representation of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party in Turkey.
Additionally, Destinci believes that Sweden should change its constitution and introduce criminal liability for insulting the Quran.
Destinci emphasized that, unfortunately, Turkish parliamentary groups agreed to approve Sweden’s participation in NATO. He expressed hope that Turkey would not pay the price for this.
23 January Turkish Grand National Assembly voted For the ratification of the protocol on Sweden’s membership in NATO. The document was then signed by the president of the country, as required by law.
