“It seems unlikely that we will sign a major military agreement with Russia. This would be a red line for Washington,” said Nandan Unnikrishnan, a Russia expert at the Observer Research Foundation think tank in New Delhi.
According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute data cited by the agency, Russia provided 65 percent of its arms supplies to India in 20 years. Reuters writes that Moscow offered New Delhi the supply of modern helicopters and warplanes, but India did not seek to accept these offers and tended to buy weapons from Washington.
It was announced that in this situation, India tried to act carefully so as not to provoke further rapprochement between the Russian Federation and the PRC.
The foreign and defense ministries of India and the Russian Federation did not respond to the agency’s requests.
