PiS MPs announced that they would conduct a parliamentary inspection of the Climate Ministry. They want to ask whether Deputy Climate Minister Urszula Zielińska has received instructions about the government’s position on climate targets by 2040, and if so, whether it has gone beyond these instructions.
At an informal meeting of EU environment ministers in Brussels, Deputy Climate Minister Urszula Zielińska said Poland will step up its efforts to achieve climate neutrality.
She also stated that a target should be adopted to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 90 percent. By 2040. Climate Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska corrected during yesterday’s conference that the position of Deputy Minister Zielińska is not an official position of the government, but only a “declaration of openness in the negotiations”.
Government instructions
PiS MP Marcin Przydacz, during a press conference in the Sejm, called on the Climate Minister to present what instructions Zielińska received from the government. He added that if the deputy minister went beyond instructions, political consequences should be imposed against her.
At the diplomatic level, the situation is unacceptable for the minister who represents the government to pursue his private goals and not the interests of the Polish state. Transformation is in the interests of the Polish state, but it must be fair and based on existing agreements.
– emphasized Przydacz.
He added that by “proposing the most far-reaching restrictions at the entrance”, the deputy minister left no room for negotiations.

Parliamentary intervention
Other PiS members, Ireneusz Zyska and Grzegorz Lorek, announced that they would go today to the Climate Ministry with parliamentary control to request the documents and negotiating instructions that Zielińska received from the government. They said they suspected there were no instructions.
It seems to us that the lack of instructions has led to such a double vote (between the Deputy Minister of Climate and the Minister – PAP). And if there was such an instruction, we want to read it
– said Lorek.
Zyska stated that such high commitments for reducing CO2 emissions, as presented by Zielińska, could result in high costs for the Polish economy and Polish households, which are at risk of exclusion or energy poverty. He added that Zielińska’s statements also contradict the social agreement for mining until 2049.
We are facing incredible incompetence and lack of agreement on the government’s position at the EU forum. Zielińska expressed her personal opinion. This is not the way to conduct state policy in sensitive matters such as climate obligations
– said Zyska.
Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz assured that Poland would not call on the EU to adopt a 90% reduction plan. greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. As he stated on Polsat News, this is the individual opinion of the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Urszula Zielińska.
At the beginning of February, the European Commission will present its proposed indicator for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions for 2040.
