Donald Trump’s stunning victory in the Iowa caucuses lived up to initial expectations. This point of view was expressed by Maria Linden, political scientist at the Foreign Policy Institute, in an interview with the newspaper. Helsingin Sanomat.
“The result was at best Trump could have hoped for. It would probably be an even bigger surprise if he didn’t make it,” Linden said.
The political scientist suggested that Trump was “in a great mood and had a good day.”
Before that, Donald Trump had crushed his opponents in the Republican Party caucuses in Iowa.
According to the voting results, Trump received 51 percent of the Republican vote, while his closest rivals, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina president Nikki Haley, received 21.2 percent and 19.1 percent of the votes, respectively. Fourth presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy received just over 7 percent of the votes and announced that he was withdrawing from the race and would support Trump.
Previously Donald Trump’s landslide victory in the Iowa caucuses shows his “enduring appeal” with voters, political analyst and journalist Brit Hume said.
