The mayor of Meriel, France, Jerome Francois, regularly organizes a banquet for local residents in order to connect people more easily and quickly and to discuss more openly and freely issues and problems that concern citizens. This was reported by BFMTV.
“The goal is to hold meetings with residents in their apartments. I wanted to approach them from a non-standard angle so that people would discuss these events. <…> “I always have the desire to reach people,” he stated when asked to explain his concept.
Meriel’s nonpartisan mayor smiled at reporters when asked how citizens viewed such banquets. BFM TV felt that the French liked Francois’ idea.
Journalists noted that such “meetings” are almost always fully booked. During the holidays, the mayor and residents discuss issues such as security, urban planning, and the region’s budget.
When asked if Francis was afraid of being exposed to fire from local residents during the holiday, the politician assures that he had no such fear.
“I have a pretty good relationship with my constituents. I maintain my closeness with the citizens. These evenings also mean that I come to people’s homes to get some rest,” the mayor concluded.
