Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that the attempt of the Armenian authorities to delimit the border between the countries based on maps from the 70s of the last century is unacceptable. His words are quoted Interfax.
As the head of state noted, when solving this issue, it is necessary to take as a starting point the period of the foundation of the Azerbaijan People’s Republic or the moment of its “Sovietization”. He also emphasized that these periods should be chosen when using political methodology.
Aliyev added, “If we choose chronological methodology, let’s look at what maps existed at the beginning of the 20th century and build our work on these maps.”
He emphasized that the intensification of the work of the commissions that will coordinate the borders of Azerbaijan and Armenia depends on the establishment of special expert groups. According to the president, such groups of experts are needed to prevent controversial issues.
The President also noted the conditional nature of the current border between the two states. In addition, Aliyev called for the creation of a working group to solve the problem of residential areas and pointed out that the residents of the relevant areas should be accommodated.
Previously at the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated About the decline in negotiations on a peace agreement with Azerbaijan.
