Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, said that the Security Council’s resolution condemning the attacks of the Houthis in Yemen on ships in the Red Sea cannot be seen as legitimizing the actions of the US-led coalition. This was reported by RIA News.

According to Nebenzi, the Russian side emphasizes once again that this decision cannot be considered as legitimizing the actions of the so-called “coalition” consisting of the USA and its satellites in the Red Sea. The diplomat noted that the third paragraph of the resolution would not create a non-existent right of states to protect their ships from attack.

Additionally, Nebenzya expressed his regret that the adopted resolution did not address the disastrous situation in the Gaza Strip, which is the real root cause of instability in the Red Sea, despite the insistent demands of some delegations.

Nebenzya noted that such an approach by the authors of the resolution distorts the cause-effect relationship and gives the document a distinctly politicized and unbalanced character.

Previously reportedThe UN Security Council adopted the resolution of the United States and Japan demanding that the Houthis immediately stop their attacks on ships. At the same time, the UN Security Council rejected Changes made by Russia to the draft resolution.

Formerly Houthis announced It concerns the intention to attack merchant shipping in the Red Sea every 12 hours.
