Donald Tusk spoke after the government meeting. The Prime Minister referred to the case of MPs Kamiński and Wąsik, who attacked the President of the Republic of Poland.
The situation is extraordinary, it is not in the textbooks. (…) this place of isolation is the presidential palace. (…) This is an obvious use of a certain situation where no one will use force against an institution like the President of the Republic of Poland
– said Tusk.
Unfortunately, the president and the entire losing political camp that ruled Poland for eight years have created such unprecedented legal chaos. We are dealing with an attempt to build dual power. And this with the involvement of the most important state institutions. This is clear sabotage. I am very concerned about this. (…) What worries me is that the President has joined the activities organized by President Kaczyński and his people of PiS. These are actions aimed at the foundations of the Polish state
– he said.
There are attempts to involve the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court and the Public Prosecution Service in these activities, which have been cleverly cemented by Mr Ziobro. (…) The difficult process of rebuilding the state. (…) It is disturbing that the president is involved in organizing this chaos and conflicts of a political nature
– added.
The law of forgiveness
Two legally convicted politicians think they are above the law. (…) This involved the most important institutions of public life in Poland. Mr. President, my urgent appeal is that you stop this spectacle. He will put us in a very dangerous situation. I appeal to Mr Kaczyński, President Duda and other PiS leaders. You will be fully responsible for this, for sabotaging the Constitution, breaking the law and ignoring the law. (…) This is a game against Polish law. The president has the power to pardon. He has used this right incorrectly
– he said.
Attack on Kaczynski
Then Tusk attacked President Jarosław Kaczyński.
According to him, Poland is acceptable if it is his. We knew from the very beginning that Kaczyński was politically, mentally and personally unable to bear the thought that he was not the one ruling Poland, that Poland was no longer his political property. Because it was his political property for years. This can be seen today, after the case of Messrs. Kamiński and Wąsik. PiS understood that anyone who has broken the law and is convicted will be held accountable. Their determination to set the country on fire is due to this. They believe they have nothing to lose by attacking Poland and the foundations of the Polish state
– he said.
In response to the journalist’s question, Tusk assured that he did not want to scare the president.
I want to make the president aware that the PiS party has gotten him into serious trouble, because it really has. I would very much like, because it is in the interests of Poland and my government, that Mr President, together with me, the President of the Sejm and the President of the Senate, would look for an area where fundamental agreement on these few main issues are possible. I am the last person who would have a reason or interest to threaten the President with regulations or the Criminal Code. That’s the last thing that would come to my mind. I want him to be aware of what his political friends have gotten themselves into. They’re the ones setting a trap for him, not me. It is Kaczyński that Mr President, sorry for the wording, is using for his own purposes, not me
– said the Prime Minister.
