European Council President Charles Michel may leave his post several months earlier than planned. His words are quoted on the Belgian portal Sudinfo TASS.

The politician plans to participate in the European Parliament elections to be held on June 6-9 as a representative of the Reform Movement party, which he chairs. If Michel enters the European Parliament, he plans to give up his post as president of the European Council because holding both posts simultaneously is prohibited under EU law.

“I will fulfill my duties as President of the European Council until I take the oath of office as a member of the European Parliament on 16 July,” the official said.

Michel’s term as president of the European Council ends in November 2024.

Szijjártó, formerly Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs in the name EU leaders who supported the sanctions resigned.

According to him, the European Union wants new sanctions against the Russian Federation in order to justify its own erroneous decisions that only harm the European economy.
