Prime Minister Donald Tusk has appointed Magdalena Sobkowiak as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Prime Minister’s Chancellery for the European Division, EU Minister Adam Szłapka said. He emphasized that preparations for the Polish presidency of the EU Council are in full swing.

As stated on the website of the Ministry of Development and Technology, the presidency of the EU Council is held by all member states on a rotating basis for six months, starting in January and July of a given year. Representatives of the country holding the Presidency of the EU Council, both at ministerial and expert level, are responsible for setting the agenda of meetings and conducting negotiations between Member States.
Poland held the presidency of the EU Council for the first time in the second half of 2011 and formed three presidencies together with Denmark and Cyprus. According to the schedule, Poland will again hold the presidency in the first half of 2025. As the first time, the presidency trio will be formed together with Denmark and Cyprus.
