The left will have its own candidate for president, Robert Biedroń, co-chair of the New Left, told PAP. However, he admitted that no decision had yet been made when such a candidate would be presented.
PAP asked Biedroń what his party’s plan is before next year’s presidential elections.
The left will have its own candidate for president. Our constituents deserve to be represented by someone who will stand up for their values and program
– said the politician.
When asked when the left would announce who the candidate would be, he replied:
There is no decision yet on this matter.
Gawkowski is not ruling out a common candidate
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski, vice-chairman of the New Left, was asked in an interview with ‘Super Express’ whether the governing coalition is considering fielding a common candidate in the presidential elections.
This variant is being considered
– he answered.
When asked what his personal opinion is on this, the minister says that in his opinion the left should put forward its candidate in the first round, because representatives of the opposition groups can also compete.
It is important that we all support each other in the second round. I don’t believe the PiS candidate will win in the first…
– he pointed out.
Equality Minister Katarzyna Kotula of the left emphasized on TVN24 that she wanted “the left to have its candidate in the presidential elections, and preferably its female candidate.” As she noted, “It’s time to focus on a woman so that the left has a strong, recognizable candidate who has fought for left-wing values in recent years.”
