†In the Brussels corridors, during committee meetings or in the European Parliament, nothing is said about additional funds for humanitarian aid to Ukraine’s neighboring countries, including Poland, which has received the largest number of Ukrainians, “the European Parliament and Justice Member of Parliament Elżbieta Rafalska.
Will the Union help Poland?
The former minister asked by editor Maciej Wolny for the words of Health Minister Adam Niedzielski, who admitted that “the European Commission’s proposed aid for Poland in relation to the costs of care for Ukrainian refugees incurred by our country is disproportionate to the magnitude of the needs,” she replied:
We know that Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has requested EUR 11 billion and these should be additional funds. However, it does not appear that the European Commission is trying to use an additional source of funding or change the budget, as this would require the approval of the European Parliament. Really, little is said about it, as if it was thought that this problem could be solved with the existing resources from the previous multi-annual program or with the KPO funds.
Does “the European Union regret Poland’s money” – asked Wolny.
The European Union saw that we handled the fact that so much aid is being provided in Poland that many other countries have not tried, we also said that whether this aid will be given to us or not, we will not refuse to help Ukraine. Today, military operations and support to Ukraine in the field of rearmament are of paramount importance. There will come a stage where we will have to say resolutely, in the name of this solidarity, but also of social justice, that if we want to provide this kind of support to refugees, the costs currently borne by Poland must be reimbursed. (…) We cannot waive requests for reimbursement of these funds. I am absolutely convinced of that
– emphasized Rafalska.
Controversial KPO Provisions
The interview also asked about the milestones included in the National Reconstruction Plan. Wolny noted that even some Law and Justice politicians seem surprised by some of the provisions of the agreement between the Polish government and the European Commission. Here, Wolny pointed out, among other things, that data on cars with a combustion engine and whether the retirement age should be increased.
On the issues related to cars, the registration deadline to 2035 and the obligations arising from the National Reconstruction Plan, this is an unequivocal political and government position, I am talking about President Jarosław Kaczyński, who said that there is no doubt that we will bring up taxes
– point them out.

There is also absolutely no provision that would oblige us to raise the retirement age, which is absurd. KPO is talking about an increase in professional activity and all kinds of incentives that give people who have reached retirement age a chance to continue their professional activity. It was we who restored the retirement age, 60 for women and 65 for men, so as not to extend it at the request of the European Union. (…) We must be prepared that when we apply for payments, our documents will be analyzed and checked twice as carefully as documents from other countries, because we don’t have too many friends in the European Union.
– she said.
