In a post on Twitter, former Prime Minister Beata Szydło pointed out that “one of the biggest nonsense that Tusk and his people regularly say is about alleged ‘feuds with allies’.” According to Radosław Sikorski, head of the Foreign Ministry in Tusk’s government, these are “PiS lies.” Former Foreign Minister, MEP Witold Waszczykowski, also joined the discussion.
Tusk has caused a crisis in relations with the US
Beata Szydło emphasized in a message on Twitter/X that it was Donald Tusk who, after taking power in 2007, “caused a crisis in relations with the US.” The MEP pointed out that relations with the United States have been rebuilt by the PiS government, which has also strengthened Poland’s position in NATO.
One of the biggest nonsense that Tusk and his people regularly say is about so-called ‘feuds with allies’. Meanwhile, it was Tusk who, after taking power in 2007, caused a crisis in relations with the US, resulting in the termination of the US anti-missile shield project. The PiS government has restored relations with the US and built Poland’s strong position in NATO. We saw the effects in 2021-2022, when first many countries rushed to support Poland during the hybrid attack from Belarus, and then when the Russian invasion against Ukraine began. Such events demonstrate the power of alliances and their practical importance
– emphasized Beata Szydło.
Sikorski hides behind Lech Kaczyński
Radosław Sikorski responded to the former Prime Minister’s submission, stating that Beata Szydło is “again repeating PiS lies.”
Ms Beata Szydło repeats PiS lies again. The shield project was not “broken” – the completed base at Redzikowo had just been taken over by the US Navy – and the change of technical concept was an American decision, not a Polish one. I would expect basic knowledge from the former Prime Minister
-Sikorski scoffed.
The former MEP, Minister of Foreign Affairs in the current Tusk government, also tried to cover up with the words of the late. President Lech Kaczynski.
A mystery for Prime Minister Beata Szydło. If the anti-missile shield project was ‘broken up’ by the PO-PSL government, what did President Lech Kaczyński thank me for?
– asked Sikorski, posting an excerpt of the late’s statement. President Kaczyński also thanked Anna Fotyga, Witold Waszczykowski for conducting the negotiations, and Sikorski for concluding them.
Waszczykowski: In 2008, Tusk rejected the shield
The former prime minister did not remain indebted to Sikorski, pointing out that the politician, “like Tusk, is trying to erase the history of Platform rule before 2015.”
They think that Poles do not remember what the Platform did a decade ago. Tusk’s quarrels with the Americans in 2008 were widely reported. The Americans only started building the shield in Poland in 2016
– emphasized Beata Szydło.
Former Foreign Minister, MEP Witold Waszczykowski, also spoke about the issue and emphasized that Beata Szydło was right.
On July 4, 2008 (an American holiday), Tusk rejected the shields. An agreement was signed in August amid panic caused by Russian aggression against Georgia. Tusk’s government did not ratify it. Obama proposed a new shield for 2018! And he finished office in 2017 @BeataSzydlo is right
– said Witold Waszczykowski.
