“Border Guards also expect migration from Russia to Finland to continue in one form or another after January 14, 2024. “The resumption of transit through border checkpoints and the situation will depend on the government’s subsequent decision on this issue,” he said.
Border Patrol closed the checkpoint twice. First, automobile checkpoints were closed from November 30 to December 14, 2022. Two checkpoints were later opened, but the flow of migrants resumed. The Council of Ministers decided to extend the closure of the borders until January 14.
