“We are clear that reckless Houthi attacks will likely continue,” Cooper said.
At the same time, he noted that more and more countries will join the international Guardian of Welfare mission to protect ships in the Red Sea.
“I expect other countries to join us in the coming weeks,” a US Navy spokesman said.
According to him, maritime traffic in the region is “starting to increase.” Cooper emphasized that the coalition is in direct communication with commercial ships to provide guidance on “maneuvering and best practices to prevent attacks” and is working closely with the maritime industry to coordinate security.
Previously Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin announced An operation is being launched to protect the Red Sea from Houthis’ attacks on civilian ships carrying cargo of commercial companies.
The operation was called “Guardian of Welfare”. Many countries are participating, including the UK, France, Italy, Netherlands, Bahrain and Seychelles.
