“Salon Dziennikarski” – a joint broadcast of the wPolityce.pl portal and Radio Warszawa was broadcast for the second time on wPolsce.pl television. Today’s guests of Jacek Karnowski are columnists of the weekly magazine “Sieci” and the portal wPolityce.pl: Elżbieta Królikowska-Avis, Marcin Wikło, Goran Andrijanić and Michał Karnowski. They discussed an unprecedented attack on public media.
We’ve been through this before
The guests mainly discussed the new government’s attack on the public media and whether resistance to the seizure of power by usurpers sent by Culture Minister Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz makes sense?
Elżbieta Królikowska-Avis referred to the seizure of public media during the time of the Polish People’s Republic and compared the current situation with the events of March ’68 and martial law.
At that time we were not ready for a free and sovereign Poland. It was about freedom of expression and pluralism. The current situation is very similar to the period of martial law. Then to the television buildings at ul. Woronicza was transported by the army, today by the police and special services. Similarly, General Jaruzelski’s speech on December 13, 1981 was not recorded in a television studio. We’ve been through this before
– said Królikowska-Avis, remembering that she was fired from her first job because of her activities in “Solidarity”.
There was no Telerank, there was no “Wiadomości”.
Marcin Wikło pointed out that right-wing commercial media can still broadcast today, but it is not known what the future will look like.
Donald Tusk understood that the media scene no longer looks the same as it did in 2015, and that online media is very important today. Therefore, just as there was no Telerank 42 years ago, today there is no “Wiadomości”. I think this story about eliminating “Wiadomości” and replacing it with some kind of prosthesis that spreads homosexuality will be remembered for forty years and more
– he said.
This resistance makes sense because someone has to say no!
– he added, pointing to Michał Adamczyk, Marcin Tulicki and Samuel Pereira as symbols who tried to entice them to resign with a high severance package, and when they did not agree, information was released about how much they did not earn.
Goran Andrijanić pointed out that the war for the media is already lost in many post-communist countries, as illustrated by Slovenia and Croatia.
There is a struggle here in Poland and we have one of the few media markets where political pluralism exists. The past eight years have led to a state of equilibrium that other post-communist countries could only dream of.
The power will reach further and further
Michał Karnowski, who joined the guests at the television studio wPolsce.pl in front of the Public Television headquarters on Powstańców Square, stated that those present were aware of the importance of the situation.
If access to a medium regulated by law is forcibly and with impunity, this law-abiding power will, if there is no resistance, continue to expand. […] However, there is a belief that violence should be rejected
– said Michał Karnowski.
The current evening newspaper called “Evening News” is fake. Further production will be simulated soon. It’s very dangerous
– he noted in the first part of “Salon Dziennikarski”.
