It will be possible to vote with a Ukrainian passport in the presidential elections of the Russian Federation in new regions. This was stated in an interview by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation, Ella Pamfilova. TASS.

“I think this is the only right decision,” he said, answering the question.

According to him, during the flooding in the Kherson region due to the explosion at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant in June, residents lost not only their homes, but also their documents, including passports of the Russian Federation.

Pamfilova said that it is important for people who live permanently in these regions but have not yet received a Russian passport or have experienced something happen to them, to have the right to vote with a document proving their identity.

However, he added that the final decision on which documents can be put to the vote will be made by local authorities.

Before that, “New People” and “Growth Party” decided unite and nominate a single candidate to participate in the elections – Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Vladislav Davankov.

The deadline for self-nominated candidates to submit documents is December 27. Party candidates must submit their documents by January 1 at the latest. Candidates nominated by parties in parliament are exempt from collecting signatures. The Yabloko party had previously announced that its leader, Grigory Yavlinsky, would not participate in the elections. According to the head of the Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, as of December 23, the number of applicants for presidential candidacy reached 29 people.
